Sample Itinerary – 4 days
A short visit to the broad and beautiful Gulf of Fethiye for sailing, cruising, swimming, kayaking is a perfect way to relax after a holiday on land particularly since it includes visits to two of the best ancient sites for exploration and contemplation – soothing to the mind.
Day 1
Afternoon board your yacht. Overnight near Göcek. Twenty-five minutes from Dalaman International Airport, Gocek has charm as a blossoming second-home destination and yacht rendezvous.
Day 2
Cruise to St. Nicholas’s Island and Olu Deniz beach. Overnight St. Nicholas’s Island.
Once home to Lycian and Byzantine pirates, the remains of an entire village are there to be explored, from pirate-ship parking to covered passage to basilica. A wonderful place to swim and snorkel, and an equally wonderful place to take in a hilltop sunset with a bottle of wine.
Olu Deniz is the most photographed and picture-postcarded of any beach in the eastern Mediterranean. The lagoon at Olu Deniz in 67 BC harbored the Roman galleys of Pompey the Great, there to eject Greek-speaking Lycian pirates from St. Nicholas, then known as Lebissos.
Day 3
Cruise along the beautiful coast to the Dalyan River. Visit the ancient city of Caunus by river boat. Overnight Ekincik
Ekincik, a stunning bay overlooked by an excellent restaurant providing superb meals in a memorable setting. From here, a local boat and guide can be hired in order to travel up the Dalyan Delta (where the “African Queen” was filmed) and visit the ancient city of Caunus and the village and rock tombs at Dalyan itself.
Day 4
Cruise via Amos Bay to Marmaris for an afternoon disembarkation from your yacht.
Marmaris: This yachting center has a sophisticated marina, excellent restaurants, lively nightlife and is a shopper’s paradise.
